Hats and Bags Fashion 2015

 Lines are increasingly blurred between Women and Men Hats and Bags.

 Modern lifestyle and fashion has made men less comfortable with the classical wallet, gym bag and brief case and more comfortable with bags that were traditionally for women.

Milan's Gucci AW15 Men runway, the Beanie was the chosen hat together with crossbody Holdalls and Messenger bags.
Fendi's selection were Backpacks, large Totes and crossbody Pouches for this season.

1889 The Fedora hat was named after the heroine Princess Fedora in a play written by Sarah Bernhart.

Indiana Jones nicknamed the man of the Fedora after the hat. His Fedora originally belonged to the treasure hunter Garth who discovered the Cross of Coronada in 1912 in Utah.  

 Fedoras were worn by women until 1924 when Prince Edward of Britain started wearing a Fedora, swiftly followed by other men.
Women seized the opportunity to regain the Fedora in the 1970s

Yoko Ono adapted the Fedora and sunglasses as her signature style.

The 21st Century Hat Exhibition

The 21st Century hat exhibition celebrated London Hat Week 28th-30th March 2015.

A excellent Exhibition, the hats were beautifully designed by some of the most well known designers such as Monique Lee a award winning MA Fashion Design, also a VOGUE Italia Senior Editior/Talent Editor finalist. Australia's Lisa Alexander, Suzanne Ryan, Ireland. Laurie Carlson Steger, USA. Ulli Meins, Germany, Hania Bulczynska, Poland and a few more.

The Glacier Lake Collection was was inspired by landscapes and refraction of light around the world.

All the pieces were easy to match with outfits for special occasions.

The above collection are custom-made hats for clients for special occasions such as Royal Ascot.

Cloche hats

Miss Fisher (Essie Davis)

 
  The Cloche derived from the French word "bell" was invented by Milliner Caroline Reboux in
1908. The Cloche is a close-fitting woman's hat with a bell-like shape, often a narrow turned-down brim or brimless, usually made of felt designed to be worn low on the forehead.
Cloches made of beads or lace for cocktail and evening wear.
Typical of the 1920s and 1930s their popularity and the shape of the hats influenced
hairstyles such as the 'Eton crop:' short, slicked crop, then worn by Josephine Baker.
  Ribbons adorning the hats indicated the wearer's status.
A Arrow-like ribbon: a girl was single but already given her heart to someone. A Firm knot meant that she was married.  A Fabulous Bow was single and had vacancies on her dance card.
Cloche hats worn throughout the year, were also made of straw or cloth depending on the season.

1960s The Cloche appeared for a brief period in Vogue.
1980 Patrick Kelly invented a version with a buttoned brim
2007 designers magazine Elle called the cloche hat the "haute accessory of the moment."
2008 Angelina Jolie wore a cloche hat in the film Changeling which was set in the late 1920.
 
2012 -2015  The TV series Miss Fisher's murder mysteries based on Kerry Greenwood's novels.
Leading lady Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis) a glamorous private detective in the 1920's, Melbourne, Australia.
The vintage costumes designed by Marion Boyce are elegant and chic, especially the Cloche hats
